“A New Day Today”
For over a year now, the Community Based Program volunteers from “A New Day Today” have become an integral part of the Sikes Adobe community. Led by Coaches Tom and Lily, these enthusiastic volunteers have made it their mission to keep Sikes Adobe beautiful and well-maintained, all while building independence, social skills, and lasting friendships—and what great friends they’ve become!
What began as a simple initiative to pick up litter from the parking areas and along the Coast to Crest Trail has blossomed into a much more involved effort. Gradually, the group expanded their focus, turning their attention to the Sikes Adobe house itself. They have become experts at weeding, tidying up the Native Plant Interpretive gardens, sweeping the porches, and even cleaning the window sills of the historic home.
Their hard work and positive energy have not gone unnoticed. To show their appreciation, the Sikes Adobe team recently organized a special treat for the volunteers—a break from their usual routine and from the heat, to enjoy a tour of the Sikes house and Nature Mobile art project. It was a small gesture of thanks for the big impact they’ve made over the past year.
The volunteers from “A New Day Today” have not only helped preserve the beauty of Sikes Adobe, but they’ve also become part of its story. Their dedication and hard work are a testament to the power of community and the joy of giving back. Thank you !
If you have extra time, love our local history, enjoy being in nature around the Sikes Farmstead, please contact calei@sdrp.org for more information about volunteering with us.
