The summer doldrums are just about here, but we still managed to find 90 species this month, keeping the overall cumulative total at 260 with no new species.
Interesting observations included Least Terns in several areas, including confirmed nests in Area 3.
In addition, we had American Goldfinches feeding young in Area 2. Other interesting species included Blue Grosbeaks in Area 3, Least Bittern in Area 2, and Swinhoe’s White-eye in Area 2.
Least Terns continued nesting in the San Dieguito Lagoon. There are a total of 14 nests established on NS12 and 4 nests established on NS11 The first nest hatched a chick on NS11 and four nests have hatched on NS12.
