PAS San Pasqual Valley Bird Walk Results 2018

Posted by: Shawna Anderson

The featured bird this month is the Brewer’s Blackbird

The featured image of a Brewer’s Blackbird was taken by Brian Sullivan and was found on The Cornell Lab of Ornithology Birds of North America website. These birds are common year-round in San Diego County.

Palomar Audubon Society Trip Leader Jim Beckman guides birders through San Pasqual Valley in early spring, and the list of bird species seen is posted on the PAS website .

SDRP has compiled the lists from 2014-2018 into a PDF document.

56 bird species were seen this year, and 7 of them were new: Rock Wren, Blue-grey Gnatcatcher, Myrtle Yellow-rumped Warbler, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Lincoln’s Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, and Brewer’s Blackbird. Like last year, none of these species are considered rare, but they just have not been seen during the previous four bird walks. However, the Myrtle Yellow-rumped Warbler, while common to winter along the Pacific Coast, is usually found in the eastern states. This brings the cumulative total to 86 different species of birds seen over the five years.
