The City of Del Mar, in partnership with the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, is constructing an extension of the River Path Del Mar on the south side of the San Dieguito Lagoon from Jimmy Durante Blvd. to the Lagoon Viewpoint at Old Grand Avenue Bridge. This extension will fill in part of a missing gap in Del Mar’s Scenic Loop Trail.

A kickoff event with REI was held on National Public Lands Day on September 26. As seen looking west from the Old Grand Avenue Bridge in the photo above, grubbing of the site, including removal of invasive ice plant and trees, has begun. Several large dumpsters have been staged along San Dieguito Dr. and at the parking area for Old Grand Avenue Bridge. Please use caution while driving or walking through the area.

In addition to the new trail segment, a new staging area is already open for business on the northeast corner of Jimmy Durante Blvd. and San Dieguito Dr. This pay lot has 30 spaces, including 2 handicap spaces, is managed by the City of Del Mar, and is known as Trailhead Parking Del Mar.
The River Path Del Mar extension project is scheduled for completion on February 15, 2016.
The San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy is raising funds to match grants awarded to this project. As of October 2015, $415,000 of the $475,000 project budget has been funded.
