The year 2010 had many accomplishments for the San Dieguito River Park JPA. The David Kreitzer Lake Hodges Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge had won many awards, and numerous grants were awarded for habitat restoration and new and improved trails throughout the Park.
Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead post-fire reconstruction was completed and reopened to the public on 6/26/10. The house had been fully restored in 2004; then the Witch Creek Fire destroyed everything but the original adobe walls.
The reconstruction cost nearly $700,000 that was funded from Federal Emergency Management Agency grants and fire insurance. The furnishings were purchased from a grant through the Community Enhancement grant program from the County of San Diego. The reconstruction followed the same floor plan as the original house and still reflected the Sikes family home as it was in the late 1880s.
Also, the River Park’s headquarters reconstruction was completed. During the 3 years following the fire, Park staff was using a temporary office space at a nearby water treatment plant. The new main office was occupied on 10/22/10, the third anniversary of the Witch Creek fire.
